Push Ups for Upper Body – Stairs
Push Ups are a great way to build upper body strength, back strength and tricep definition without gym equipment. Doing 3-4 sets of push-ups a day will keep arms shoulders and back more toned and ready for stronger work. Most people get bored with doing the same old push-ups, or women may have difficulty doing them without bent knees. Here are a few simple techniques for adding variety and improving form.
If you have a set of steps or stairs on the interior or exterior of your house, you have a great tool. Start with an incline pushup set at a comfortable upper level of the stairs. Place your hands on a step and lean forward with your feet firmly below your body and aligned with your shoulders. This takes the full weight of your body off of your shoulders and will focus energy on the chest or pectoral muscles at a different angle. Great for getting started.
As you increase the level of difficulty, move your position of hands to a lower step until you can consistently do a 3-4 sets of 10-15 pushups before moving down a level. If you looking for a real challenge, try the variations in the video below!
Notice the angle of shoulders at each incline and difficulty levels increasing. Doing a full set at even two steps high will build strength.
